Simple goal: Double qualification - Urspring is more than just a
school.
On the edge of the "Swabian Mountains" and at the
end of a beautiful valley, lies the over 800 year old cloister
area Urspring. It appears very idyllic but in actuality, it is
a state approved gymnasium with both boarding and day students.
The boarding school is above average in its art. It focuses on
guiding the students towards a higher life competence.
At Urspring our goal is very simple: we help our children and
teenagers work through the difficult processes that are
encountered in life, so that they are able to deal with not
only themselves but also with others.
Urspring is a place of community living and learning for 265
young girls and boys and 70 adults.
The adult staff is there to support the efforts of the young
students with the integration of the compact life situations
that exist in a boarding school. The students master social
competence, self-awareness, responsibility and self-worth, in
short, a competence to deal with all life´s challenges. This
is achieved through small classes, independent study,
supervised study groups and individual tutoring - plus a wide
variety of extra curricular activities.
The students live together with their teachers and mentors
in small groups. The job of the mentor is to be always
available to the students for problem solving, but also to
allow a distance for self-development.
At Urspring, the students have the possibility to complete
an apprenticeship along with the Abitur. Around one-fifth of
our students take advantage of this offer for double
qualification. The students who leave Urspring after having
mastered approximately 3800 apprenticeship hours have
certainly achieved a self-awareness - that is what
distinguishes our student from others.

They have gained experience by participating in fashion shows
(dressmaking), by taking part in the international Eurowood
Exhibition (carpentry) and by working and learning at a
renowned factory for Rotation-symmetrical precisions parts (mechanical
engineering in cooperation with Lindenmaier AG, Laupheim). And,
they have proven time and again, that they are fully capable
of carrying this responsibility. That is a good indicator of
future possibilities.
In addition, since 1998, Urspring is a basketball training
center for Baden-Württemberg. Talented student players have
the opportunity to play on the best of the German school teams
or to receive scholarships from outstanding American colleges.
Nobody lives in Urspring against their will. Therefore, we
feel it is very important, not only for the parents to visit
the school and get a personal impression, but also for the
children and teenagers who are going to spend a very formative
time of their lives here.
